NCF Learning Outcome: Compares two different habitats and the animals/plants found there.

1. Classroom Opener (The Train Journey)

Activity: Tell the students to close their eyes and imagine they are looking out the window of a train.
"First, the train goes through a dark, thick jungle with tall trees and monkeys."
"Then, the train goes into a place with yellow sand everywhere, very hot sun, and cactus plants."
Ask: "Did the animals outside the window change when the scenery changed? Why?"

2. Core Concepts: Comparing Habitats

A habitat is the natural home of an animal or plant. It provides food, water, and shelter.

A. The Forest Habitat

Features: Lots of rain, tall trees blocking the sun, very green.
Plants: Broad leaves to catch sunlight.
Animals: Monkeys (swing in trees), Tigers (hide in tall grass), Birds.

B. The Desert Habitat

Features: Very hot in the day, very little rain, sandy and dry.
Plants: Cacti (thick stems to store water, thorns instead of leaves so animals don't eat them).
Animals: Camels, Snakes, Scorpions. Many sleep during the hot day and come out at night.

C. The Aquatic Habitat (Water)

Features: Oceans (salty) and Rivers/Lakes (freshwater).
Plants: Seaweed, Lotus (floating leaves).
Animals: Fish, Dolphins, Frogs.

3. Classroom Activity: Build a Habitat Box

Prep: Empty shoeboxes, craft materials (sand, cotton for snow, blue paper for water, toy animals).

The Task:

Assign small groups a specific habitat (Desert, Arctic, or Forest).
They must use the craft materials to build the habitat inside the box.
They must choose only 3 animals to place inside their box.
Presentation: They must explain to the class why those 3 animals survive well in their box, and what would happen if a forest animal wandered into their desert box.

4. Assessment Check (Comparative Reasoning)

Question: "Look at a camel from the desert and a fish from the river. How does each animal solve the problem of moving around in its specific habitat?" (Reasoning: The camel uses wide, padded feet to walk on sinking sand; the fish uses fins to push through the water).
