1. Classroom Opener (The Family Tree)

Activity: Draw a simple "Family Tree" on the board showing a grandmother, parents, and two children.
Ask: "Does everyone's family look exactly like this? What if an aunt lives with you? What if it's just you and your mom?"
Concept: Every family is unique and special. There is no "one right way" to be a family.

2. Core Concepts: People Around Us

A. Family Structures

Nuclear Family: Parents and children living together.
Joint Family: Grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts, and cousins living together in one home.

B. Occupations (Work people do)

People in our community do different jobs to earn money and help others.
Examples: Farmer (grows food), Tailor (stitches clothes), Carpenter (makes wooden furniture), Mechanic (fixes vehicles).
Key point: Every job is important and deserves respect (Dignity of Labour).

C. Local Geography Basics

Mapping: Understanding a simple map of the school or neighbourhood.
Symbols: Using a picture of a red cross for a hospital, or a slide for a park on a map.

3. Classroom Activity: The Neighbourhood Map

Prep: Large chart paper and markers.

The Task:

In small groups, have students draw a "Bird's Eye View" map of the road outside their school.
They must include at least 3 landmarks (e.g., the school gate, the bus stop, a nearby shop).
They must invent a symbol for each landmark.

4. Assessment Check (Comparative Thinking)

Question: "Look at the picture of the Joint Family and the Nuclear Family. Name one thing that is different between them. Name one thing that is the same (e.g., they both care for each other)."
